This website gives a good overview about the history of Visual Communication from early cave and rock paintings to postmodernism.

Playboy Playmates

A bavarian radio station made a longer interview with photojournalist Christoph Bangert, but unfortunately it’s in german only. I once met Christoph in New York and what I like most about him is that he is a not only a good photojournalist with a lot of energy but also a really nice and likeable guy.

From Utata’s website:

“Utata is a collective of photographers, writers, and like-minded people who share a compelling interest in the arts. We began (and continue to exist) as a salon-style gathering of photographers who came together on flickr. As a group we are continuously evolving; Utata is more of a process than a final product. (…)”

Utata.org is a website full of projects, photos and articles, I guess it takes some time to find and understand everything. But there is one section called “Sunday Salon with Greg Fallis ” where once or twice per month a photographer and his/her work are presented. There are well known names among them but also less known artists so it’s a really nice archive now and worth checking it out.

ICP Lectures online

March 4, 2010

The International Center of Photography (ICP) has an audio and video archive online with a bunch of lectures by many different artists. The audio archive dates back until 1975 and incudes lectures by Bruce Davidson, Anne Leibovitz, Martin Parr, David LaChapelle, Phillip-Lorca Di Corcia and many others. The video archives starts 1995, but there are only few videos online yet. Though it seems ICP is putting more material online in the near future. For sure this online archive is a good resource, especially as it also has a search option to find specific photographers.

My favourite collection on www.cracktwo.com is “rare photos of famous people“. Good blog for a lazy sunday night.

Through a friend I found this blog and it made laugh a lot… I like to see “serious”, “arty” photography and write about it, but sometimes it’s just great to watch these nonsense amateur photos. Awesome collection & blog.

Admired bloggers Jörg Colberg from “Conscientious” and Hester and Norman from “Mrs. Deane” started a new blog “the independent photo book” that lists independent photo books that are not available on amazon etc.

What a great idea to collect all the wonderful work and books one never comes across beacause they are too small which actually says nothing about their quality- so many of the self-made and self-published books are really interesting and cool.

Again, great idea, thanks Jörg, Hester and Norman!

(Hope to produce and publish my own project “Bergwerk Ost” later this year – and put it on the list…)

Another interesting resource including articles, videos and Q&A’s about art and photography is the telegraph.co.uk website.

For those I haven’t seen recently, I wish everybody a merry christmas and a very happy 2010!
